The Cap and Trade Bill (H. R. 2454), otherwise known as Waxman-Markey, is the 946 page energy sector takeover bill waiting to be put to the floor of the Senate.
If you read the bill, it is a FACT that it does not even address the so-called CO2 problem or global warming (if you believe in that stuff). Instead it creates a new industry trading in 'carbon credits' that simply redistributes wealth, centralizes energy production and distribution under the federal government, and provides favored corporations and politically connected groups with a means to make obscene profits. It is simply a massive transfer of wealth from individuals and small businesses to the federal government, gigantic corporations and big investors. (Understand I am not talking about all large businesses; just the ones that are actively involved in this scheme and/or are controlled by the federal government and its cronies.)
Welcome to the new politics; how's that 'Hope' and 'Change' working out for you?
The bill was crafted with special interests and big business in mind, and corporations like G.E., Duke Energy and others stand to make a fortune. It is no coincidence that these businesses spend some of the highest amounts of money on lobbying in Washington, D.C. (G.E. is currently the #1 corporate lobbyist. I bet you thought it was the oil companies; you would be wrong.)
Well, it only gets better from there. GE CEO Jeff Immelt is a member of President Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Council, and he also happens to control NBC and MSNBC since GE owns both networks. NBC and MSNBC have also been on the forefront of championing cap-and-trade, in addition to other Democratic initiatives. Funny how that works out?

other examples of lobbying resulting in political regulations and favors:
"Duke Energy, the third-largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the U.S. utility sector, has spent more than $10 million to lobby Congress since 2008, helping to shape, it says, legislation to cap carbon emissions… [Waxman-Markey] gave Duke most of the credits it would need for the next 15 to 20 years for free.
“That was a major achievement,” said Duke spokesman Tom Williams. “I would say that was a major example of our [lobbying] presence paying off for our customers.”
Maybe Duke meant “paying off from our customers,” since Duke Energy has already applied to increase electricity rates 12.6% ($500 million) in anticipation of carbon cap legislation."

One scheme that corporations are trying to use to reap massive profits through new government regulations (which they lobby for):
"The Great Light Bulb Robbery"
http://greenhellblog.com/2 009/11/02/the-great-light- bulb-robbery/
I guess what most concerns and angers the average person is the fact that Cap-and-Trade will result in the biggest tax increase in U.S. history, will destroy the coal, oil, and natural gas industries (destroying millions of jobs, leaving us dependent on foreign supplies of energy, skyrocketing energy costs for ALL Americans, and leading to potential massive blackouts).
Cap and Trade would be "The Biggest Tax Increase In World History":
"Waxman found out that he couldn't get his bill through committee without the votes of most of the moderate Democrats who represent districts that produce coal or oil or have energy-intensive manufacturing that depends on low-cost electricity from coal. They were demanding that the industries in their districts be given ration coupons for free.
So in a series of backroom deals, Waxman started trading coupons for votes. By the time he was done, 85% of the ration coupons had been given away to special interests for the first fifteen or so years of the cap-and-trade program. The big winners were electric utilities, which get 35% of each year's allotment of coupons for free. Even here, however, some utilities do much better than others."

"Obama Admin: Cap And Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year":
"A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration's estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year."
http://www.cbsnews.com/blo gs/2009/09/15/taking_liber ties/entry5314040.shtml
"Dem's Cap and Trade Bill Is a 3.6 Trillion Dollar Gas Tax Too":
"Cap and trade policies will likely cost Americans $700 to $1,400 dollars per family per year. The Department of Energy estimated GDP losses would be between $444 billion and $1.308 trillion over the 21-year period. Cap and trade also could cost the US 4 million jobs.
But that's not all. Cap and trade would also mean a massive new national gas tax on American families and American business. Cap and trade legislation will drive up the prices of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Higher fuel costs will feel like a new gas tax that will hit consumers at every income level, in every state, in every field of transportation and manufacturing."

And in order to pass the legislation, the Democrats are willing to do anything, breaking rules included, in order to get it done. I guess when this much money is involved, including a piece for each helpful congressman, anything goes:
"Senator Barbara Boxer Breaks Senate Committee Rules…
The liberal California senator passed the dem’s cap-&-tax legislation out of committee without a single GOP member in attendance. This is against the rules and the first time it has ever happened."
http://www.politico.com/ne ws/stories/1109/29181.html
By the way, the objections to passing the bill out of committee have to do with the fact that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study has yet to be completed, which GOP members wish to see before a vote is called. Nevertheless, shady happenings have been occurring at the EPA:
"Give the Environmental Protection Agency credit: At least it practices equal opportunity censorship of its employees.
Dr. Alan Carlin, a 37-year agency veteran, was muzzled earlier this spring. Dr. Carlin offered a report poking holes in the science underlying the theory of manmade global warming. His superior, Al McGartland, complained the paper did "not help the legal or policy case" for Team Obama's decision to regulate carbon, told him to "move on to other issues," and forbade him from discussing it outside the office.
Now come Laurie Williams and Allan Zabel, married, and each with more than 20 years tenure at the EPA. They too are dismayed by Democrats' approach to climate, though for different reasons. Dedicated environmentalists, they created a 10-minute YouTube video arguing Congress's convoluted cap-and-trade bill was a "big lie" that is too weak.
...it was EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson who began her tenure promising the agency would operate like a "fishbowl." But that was before EPA realized how vastly unpopular is its plan to usurp Congress and regulate the economy on its own, based on its bizarre finding that CO2 is a danger to health.
Faced with unhappy members of Congress, dissenting employees, an opposition business community, and a backlash on the science, Mrs. Jackson is no longer a fan of open government. The goal now is to rush the agency regulations through as quickly as possible, squashing threatening dissent and deflecting troublesome questions."

One of the most important takeaways from the above article is that if congress cannot pass Cap-and-Trade, it looks like the administration is set to implement as much as it can through federal regulations. Democracy indeed.
In regards to CO2, I ask only a short question:
What do you exhale each time you breathe, what do plants need to survive, and what do animals produce on a constant basis? Don't answer all at once...
