I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the Communist Goals for America from a House of Representatives hearing in 1963. Looking at the list, it's not hard to see that many of the "goals" have either come to fruition or seem to be gaining traction each day in America.
It's sad to think that the former pro-Soviet Communists, who today comprise a broad spectrum of leftist or "progressive" groups, have created the conditions that they believed would lead to a fundamental change in the U.S., and by extension, the world. It's important to note that Communists (and the majority of leftists) are fervently anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-family. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a philosophy founded on the concept of the worthlessness of the individual would seek to destroy (i.e. "change") any philosophy and nation that stands against this nihilistic belief.
Even though Communism and socialist totalitarian ideologies led to the deaths of about 200 million people in the last century, leftists continue to pursue their doctrines of social and economic "equality" and the destruction of freedom in order to create their unattainable socialist utopias. Due to their intellectual vacuity, narcissism, and disassociation with reality, today's leftists continue to believe that they "will make it work this time because they know better." It seems that due to ignorance, the selfish pursuit of personal desires, and a naivety in the face of evil, humans will be destined to continue making the same mistakes that cause pain, suffering, chaos and destruction.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)
12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. (Democrats?)
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights. (A favorite tactic of the left today.)
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks. (Think about what you learned/are learning today in schools.)
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions. (What are the current political opinions of the major networks and newspapers?)
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures. (What kind of politics comes out of Hollywood today?)
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms." (Post-modern art?)
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art." (Think about what gets praised as art today; what did you see the last time you were in an art museum?)
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV. (Reality TV shows, sex and crude language on television, pornography all over the internet, etc.)
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch." (The liberation theology movement, ideas about "social justice" in the church, a "Purpose-Driven Life," etc.)
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis. (A "Living" Constitution)
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man." (It is now regularly taught that all the founders were slave-owners (not true), were rich (not true), were not Christians (not true), and cared little about what happened to the average American (not true and absurd).)
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over. (Substitute "revisionist history" for "Russian history.")
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc. ("Universal" health care, the Department of Education, etc.)
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions. (The leadership of all the major unions are avowed Communists or leftists.)

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents. (How prevalent is the attitude of "blame the parents" in today's society? Why did the Soviets, the Nazis, etc. all seek to separate children from parents at an early age and put them into youth corps?)

Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems. (How often do leftist student "protests" end in violence or severe disruptions to the peace? Why does this happen?)
43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

For those of you interested in how a number of these things came to pass, a great place to start studying is the Frankfurt School and its influence upon American universities and culture. Sadly, it seems that the ideas of corrupt leftists have taken hold in many areas of American life and culture. If our society is to survive, it will have to be as the result of a widespread awakening among citizens as to the dangers of "post-modernism" and the "progressive" mentality.
In the face of government corruption and unpopular policies, a president who many people are now unhappy with, and a degradation of societal values and morals, many people are asking "how could this/did this happen?" I believe the answer is that many good people stood by and did nothing as ideologically radical and morally bankrupt individuals changed the vital institutions of American society. This should not only be a lesson for the future, but it should also serve as a wake-up call for concerned citizens to step up and do something. The simple act of telling the truth in the face of lies, and speaking your convictions, does an immeasurable amount of good.
To close, I would like to warn all Christians that the same things that happened/are happening to American society are taking place in the church today (#27). Now, more than ever, Christians should be questioning their pastors and the messages that are given by them. You may think that you go to a "good" church, and that your pastor is a "good" guy, but have you ever seriously questioned the things he said? I know firsthand the corruption of church doctrine from attending a church for several years that is currently doing great spiritual harm and is full of the teachings of leftist "social justice." Souls are at stake, and soon it may be too late. Will you do something about it?
